Potato Rice / Aloo Rice/Aloo Baath

I always prefer potatoes  to prepare  curries,fries,and for snack items.After my marriage,when I stepped to My mother-in-law house,from her I came to know this variety of recipe.So I started doing this,and want to know you all about the Spicy Potato Rice.

  • Potatoes- 2no
  • Onions- 1 no
  • Green chillies-3no
  • Ginger- 1" (peeled)
  • Jeera/Cuminseeds-1/2 tsp
  • Raw rice-2 cups (Sona Masoori/Basmati Rice- optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee-1tbsp
  • Oil-1 tbsp
  • Cashewnuts- few
  • Boiled Water-4 cups to cook rice.
  • Tasty salt/Ajinamotto/Chinese salt/Monosodium Glutamate- a pinch
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Frozen green peas-1/2 tbsp (optional)
  • Garam masala- a pinch

  • Clean the potatoes ,peel off its outer skin and cut in to small cubes and keep it aside.
  • Wash the rice with water ,drain all the water and keep it aside.
  • Chop the Onions in lengthwise.
  • Cut the ginger,greenchilies in to small pieces
  • Take a blender or Mixy jar,add chopped ginger ,greenchilly pieces,salt,Cumin seeds and make a fine paste.
  • Take a pan and heat it by adding little Ghee and Oil,when it gets heated add the Onions and cook it till it turns golden in color.
  • Add the cashew nuts to roast.
  • Next add the turmeric, Potato cubes,Frozen peas and cook it for few minutes.
  • Add Ginger,Green chilly paste, Garam masala and mix up well with a spatula.
  • Now add the Washed and drained rice which was kept aside to the pan and roast it till just the rice changes its color.Keep the gas in low flame.(May be a chance to turn rice black)
  • Now shift these Mixture in to a pressure Cooker or in to an Electric Cooker by adding hot water.
  • Add Tasty salt,salt to the water and allow to cook in an Electric cooker or allow to cook for 3 whistles in the pressure cooker.
  • Once the pressure gets down ,and remove the whistle .
  • Mix well once with a spatula.
  • Serve this taking in a bowl and it goes well with Raita/Curd Chutney.
