Dasara ~ Vijayadashami & Naivedyam

Happy VijayaDashami wishes to all my Friends & Readers.

Tenth day and the Final  day of Navaratri is dedicated to worship as Sri Rajarajeshwari Devi and today is Celebrated as Dasara.Dasara, also spelt as Dussehra, is observed on the tenth day in Shukla Paksha of Ashwin or Ashwayuja month. In 2010, the date of Dasara is October 17. It is also called as Vijaya Dashami. Dussehra is the final day of Durga Navratri Puja.Final day to the devotees to have a darshan of Durga in the Alnkaram of Sri Rajarajeshwari Devi.Reading and Hearing  this Stotram is auspicious.

Appearance or iconography of Goddess Rajarajeshwari Devi is mentioned in many Puranas and scriptures. Rajarajeswari has four hands (Chaturbhuji) and three eyes (Trinetri). She holds the noose, the goad, sugarcane bow and five flowered arrows in her four hands. Three main aspects of the universe – Sun, Moon and fire – represent her three eyes. She has a crescent moon in her forehead (in her crown) which means she blesses the world with her divine blessings.

Significance of the things Rajarajeshwari holds in her hands:

Rajarajeshwari holds a noose in her hand. The noose tells us about the power she has on the whole universe which she can control by her determination and love. The goad is the indication for power of knowledge. The sugarcane stem draws out the mind principle of man. The five flowered arrows (Pushpa Bana) indicate the five senses – sound, touch, form, taste and smell.

Goddess Rajarajeshwari has three manifestations or forms or aspects – Sthula Shareera (physical aspect), Sukshma Sharira (astral form) and archetypal form of the macrocosm and microcosmic creation.

On Dasara, Shami Puja is performed in some places. Mysore Dasara and Kullu Dasara culminate on this day. Ayudha Pujais also one of the main rituals during Dussehra. As this is the last day for Durga Pooja, Goddess is worshipped with utmost devotion. Aparajita is another name of Goddess Shakti. Aparajita Pooja is observed on this day.

In Maharahstra, Simollanghan is celebrated on Dasara. For Kerala people, Vijaya Dashami is a big event. Malayalis perform Vidyarambam for their children on this day. Ramlila, a colourful folk play, is culminated on this day. Durga Visarjan is also performed on Vijaya Dashami.

Teppotsavam or Theppotsavam is the concluding event of Devi Sharan Navaratri utsavam in Vijayawada Kanakadurga Temple. It is performed on Dasara or Vijayadashami. Teppotsavam 2010 date is October 17th, Sunday, 5 pm onwards. It is a boat festival during which the presiding deities of the temple are taken out for procession in boat along the river Krishna.

At 5’0 clock in the evening, Durga Malleshwara swamy varla utsava vigrahalu are taken out by priests along the Krishna River in a fully decked boat. This boat is known as Hamsa Vahanam. In Telugu, Hamsa means ‘the swan’ and the ‘vahanam’ is vehicle.

People from far places comes to Visit this boat festival.Really amazing to have a greta look.I enjoyed this Boat festival at my school days ,going along with my dad .Today and from last 2years ,I am watching through Internet resources.

Why Theppotsavam is performed after Navaratri celebrations?

Teppotsavam is more like requesting the God and Goddess to take rest for some time after getting pujas for 10 continous days without any breaks.
